Jewish Friendship Group Prepares for Busy 2008

Hope all your holiday celebrations were enjoyed with gusto and good health. This is the start of the new year for the JFG, and now is the time for you to remit your dues. A check (made out to the JFG) for $12 per person should be submitted to our treasurer, Paul Shalita, at 37901 Arroyo Way as soon as possible.

Now, that’s enough of business--let’s get on to the fun stuff! The next meeting of the Jewish Friendship Group is scheduled for Sunday, January 20, at 6 p.m. in the Vistas Dining Room in the SaddleBrooke I Clubhouse. The dinner menu will consist of tossed salad, meatloaf, mashed potatoes, green beans, and apple crisp with whipped cream - yum! The cost is $16 per person ($18 for non-members and guests), and your checks must be in Paul’s hands by Monday, January 14. A special vegetarian dinner (roasted vegetables with pasta) is available for those who have certain dietary needs. Please call Louise Newitz at 818-9122 to order the special dinner. Entertainment will be provided by the Desert Tones, a local women’s chorus directed by Bill Bellah and accompanied by Mary Bellah; they will be singing the popular swing tunes of the 30s, 40s, and 50s. C’mon along and join the fun and singing! No walk-ins are permitted, so make sure your money and reservations are made by Monday, January 14.

The next Ladies’ Coffee on Tuesday, January 8, has been cancelled. The next outing will be on February 22 at the home of Judi Schumacher. She can be reached at 825-7196.

Carol Gordon is coordinating a tour to Israel next October for members of the JFG. Anyone interested in a brochure or other information should contact Carol at 825-3618. This is a comprehensive, professionally organized 17-day tour and should be very educational and exciting. Anyone who has a desire to visit the Holy Land should take advantage of this opportunity now.

And last, but certainly not least, kudos to our own Doug Mitchell for his awesome performance in The Invisible Theatre’s production of “The Business of Murder.” We’re all proud of you, Doug!

We are very happy to welcome new members to the Jewish Friendship Group. If you are new to SaddleBrooke and would like to attend a JFG social evening or need information about the Jewish community in SaddleBrooke, please let us know by contacting one of the following officers: president, Steve Grabell (825-4159), or co-vice presidents Louise Newitz (818-9122) and Don Aaronson (818-3842).
