The SaddleBrooke Golden Eagles, a group that supports the Boy Scouts program in the SaddleBrooke area, has launched its 2009 fund drive. All dollars raised support scouting in and around Catalina, Mammoth, Oracle, and San Manuel. These are communities where many of the boys participating in scouting would be unable to do so without the funds provided by the Golden Eagles.
Last year, $17,000 was donated by the residents of SaddleBrooke to assist boys in being involved in scouting activities. For 2009, the group hopes to equal or surpass last year’s effort.
The Golden Eagles is chartered by both SaddleBrooke Homeowners Associations. The purpose of the group is to provide and promote financial and program support for the Catalina Council, Boy Scouts of America. The fund drive is the key to that support.
According to Dave Stanard, Golden Eagles’ chair, the fund drive began at a meeting for key campaign workers on November 18 and will end in early 2009. On April 25, the group will hold its annual dinner to celebrate the end of the fund drive. A dinner featuring Iowa ham and Marie Callendar pies is planned again for this year, and the dinner will be open to anyone who has an interest in the scouting program.
Attending the kick-off meeting on November 18 were Brinton Darlington, Garfield Thomas, Roger Bogard, Howard Kaste, Dick Marion, Steve Proffitt, John Wiley, Jim Holman, Dave Stanard, and Catalina Council representative, Tom McVeigh. They are currently contacting former contributors and new prospects.
All friends of scouting, former scouts, scout leaders, and parents or grandparents of scouts are invited to contribute to this effort. This is a great opportunity to demonstrate support for an outstanding program for boys.
Currently, close to 100 residents of SaddleBrooke participate in Golden Eagles activities; and the Golden Eagles is open to anyone who lives in our community. You do not need to have any prior association with scouting to belong.
