SaddleBrooke Swimmers Garner 72 Medals at Tucson Senior Games

SaddleBrooke swimmers at the Tucson Swim Meet

On January 29, a perfectly clear crisp morning, 29 SaddleBrooke swimmers participated in the annual Tucson Senior Games. The swim events were held in the outdoor pool at the Clements Center in southeast Tucson. Our group had over half of the total number of swimming participants.

SaddleBrooke swimmers represented age groups from 50-54 through 75-79. An outstanding total of 72 medals were earned. Many personal bests were attained across our age groups in the 50 butterfly, freestyle, and backstroke. Our own coach, Doug Springer, swam to four first place finishes with no other competitors even close. Way to go, coach!

Top ranking female first place finishers included Joyce Howard, Terese Butler, Peggy Shea, Penny Stigers, Diane Wagner, Barb Haugland, Jill Fritz, and Mary Lustig. Among our males, first place awards went to Jeff Eighmy, Dave Taylor, Dick Hogan, Barry Deats, Steve Proffitt, Glen Peterson, Walt Howland, and Jack Fritz.

Congrats to all swimmers as great swim times continue to be posted. We next prepare for our last Senior Games meet at Green Valley on March 21 when we will attempt to exceed our 72 awards won at the Tucson Senior Games.
