April 2008

Special Olympics Fundraiser

The sixth annual Special Olympics fundraiser will be held at Players Pub on April 19, 2008, at 16024 N. Oracle Road in Catalina. This event is sponsored by the Players Pub, Catalina Mountain Elks Lodge #2815, Catalina/Oro Valley Lions Club, Best Western Catalina Inn, and State Farm of Catalina. Some of the activities planned are a motorcycle poker run, live music, arts and crafts exhibits, raffles, and silent and live auctions. The master of ceremonies will be the inimitable radio personality Pork Chop of 99.5 FM. Hamburgers, brats, hot dogs, and beverages will be available for purchase.

The Special Olympics is a nonprofit organization that does not receive funding from the United Way or any government agency. Last year, $24,570 was raised for the Special Olympics of Pima County. The proceeds from these events provide training opportunities, equipment, and supplies to over 1,500 children and adults with disabilities in southern Arizona.

Jack Baillargeon, Lee Cook, and Stan Simard of the Catalina Mountain Elks Lodge are
co-chairing this event. For additional information, contact Jack Baillargeon at 742-0897.
